I came across a video called, “Why I Hate Religion, but Love
Jesus” by Jefferson Bethke. This young man told his opinion and story through
poetry, which was quite powerful. In the video Bethke brings up points on why religion
is not the thing we should strive for, but we should strive to gain a better
relationship with Jesus.

While watching I could relate my life and beliefs to what he
was saying. He was basically saying that religion can sometimes allow a person
to forget about what’s really important. Sometimes a person can get caught up
with the religion aspect by doing everything that is “right”, but forget about what
is really important which is gaining a relationship with Jesus and getting the
chance to live by His grace.

Now, I want to clear up that he isn't saying that religion
is “bad”, but he is trying to say that if you just do things religiously, but
do not concentrate and gain a lasting relationship with Jesus. Than you still
aren't any good. In my opinion religion is the gate way to getting to know
Jesus, and a tool to help bring others to Christ. But, when religion becomes the main focus and
Jesus is put into the corner, is when I believe religion becomes wrong. Jesus
should be the focus always, and we should all be striving to gain a stronger
relationship with Christ. Over all I really
loved this point that Bethke made. So, I encourage all of you to check it out
and tell me what you all think. Always remember you only have one life, one
Chance so make the best of it!
